Salt Lake City, UT – When Mark Twain wrote about his 1861 visit to the Utah Territory, he turned his caustic wit on its inhabitants and religion alike. His look at the Book of Mormon declared it "chloroform in print." Take out the phrases "and it came to pass" and "exceeding sore" he argued, and "[Smith's] Bible would have been only a pamphlet." Twain's Roughing It chronicles his adventures in the West and the 19th century American experience.
