1/14/09: Oceanographer Sylvia Earle

By Doug Fabrizio

Salt Lake City, UT – Sylvia Earle is often called "Her Deepness" and she's earned the majestic title for good reason. In 1970, she led an all-female research team that lived at the ocean floor for two weeks. In 1979, she walked untethered on the sea floor at a record-breaking depth - one that has yet to be matched. Dr. Earle has made the ocean her life and she's now Explorer in Residence at the National Geographic Society. Sylvia Earle is coming to Utah next week, and Wednesday, she joins Doug to talk about the ocean - the parts she knows and loves and the depths she still wants to explore.

Dr. Sylvia Earle will be in Salt Lake City on Friday, January 23rd for an event at The Living Planet Aquarium. She will present a lecture called Sustainable Seas: The Vision and the Reality. There will also be a VIP reception with Dr. Earle before the lecture. Both events benefit the Aquarium and Seacology. For tickets and information, call 801-355-FISH or click here.
