Hansen and children from the New Hope Orphanage on a hike in the surrounding hills of Yaounde, Cameroon.

By Jenny Brundin

Salt Lake City, UT – Ryan Oliver Hansen is an idealist who set out to make a difference. When he arrived at an orphanage in Cameroon, he was confronted with the harsh reality of corruption and abuse of the children he had come to help. But unlike volunteers who left discouraged, Hansen decided to stay. He and his allies risked their lives to create the New Hope Orphanage. Jenny Brundin talks to Hansen about hope, about a world that doesn't operate by Western rules, and about what his role in that world really is.

Visit Ryan Oliver Hansen's web site Green Eyes in Africa.

Join Hansen for dinner and a screening of the documentary "Green Eyes in Africa" Friday, Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel, 150 W. 500 S., Salt Lake City. For tickets and information, call 595-5366.
