11/20/06: The High Cost of Being Poor

By Dan Bammes

Salt Lake City, UT – Low-income families in American society often have to pay top dollar for things other Americans take for granted. They include usurious interest rates on payday loans, exorbitant rents on furniture and appliances and high fees for medical care. They don't get the price breaks that upper and middle class families get when businesses compete for their patronage. On this edition of Your Personal Economy, Dan Bammes looks at how the economic deck seems to be stacked against people at the low end of the income scale. His guests are John Bird from the Albion Financial Group, Linda Hilton from the Crossroads Urban Center and Jerilyn Oldroyd Stowe from United Way.
