Salt Lake City, UT – Carol Lynn Pearson knows all to well the pain that can arise in the conflict of religion and new social realities. Twenty years ago, she wrote the seminal book, Goodbye, I Love You, about her 12-year temple marriage to her gay husband. Now, she has created a new play called Facing East, which follows an upstanding Mormon couple dealing with the suicide of their gay son. Plan B Theatre Company opens the work this week, and Pearson joins Doug for a conversation about how society and religious communities deal with homosexuality.
