Salt Lake City, Utah – NPR ombudsman Alicia Shepard has said that "the best journalists know that strong news organizations become stronger by listening to their critics." That statement gets to the heart of her job, which isn't to defend NPR. Shepard's role is to listen to and carefully consider listener feedback, and when the criticism is justified, to bring the message home to the NPR staff. Alicia Shepard is in Utah and she joins us in studio to talk about media ethics and NPR's place in the media landscape.
