Interior Nominee Supported by Utah Delegation

Washington, D.C. – President Bush named Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne to be the new Secretary of the Interior Thursday. Utah lawmakers had praise for the nominee, who is a former U.S. Senator. Benjamin Shaw reports from Capitol Hill.

Smoking Ban Bill Signed Into Law

Salt Lake City, UT – Yesterday, Governor Jon Huntsman made Utah the 12th state in the country to pass comprehensive anti-smoking legislation. He signed a bill that bans smoking in private clubs and bars. But the owners of those private clubs say their businesses are unique and they're asking the state to look at them in a different way. KUER's Mikenna Clokey reports.

Few Smoking Restrictions in US Capitol

Washington, DC – The Utah legislature has passed and Governor Jon Huntsman has signed a bill that bans smoking in private clubs and taverns as well as many other indoor areas of Utah. There's one part of America where the movement to ban smoking doesn't seem to have taken hold, and that's in the halls of Congress. Laura Strickler reports from our Capitol Hill bureau.

Utah Guardsmen Offer Opinions on Iraq

Salt Lake City, UT – A recent poll asked American troops in Iraq this question: How long should troops stay in Iraq? An overwhelming 72 percent surveyed think the U.S. should exit the war-torn nation within the next year. More than one in four say the troops should leave immediately. Commentators this past week have debated the accuracy of the poll. But on Saturday, producer Sara Buhr checked in with Utah Guardsmen who've just returned from Iraq, to get their opinions on the matter.
